Protecting Your Skin From the Inside Out

It’s Saturday morning and the gods of summer have finally granted you the ideal weekend beach day. Before you jump in the car, hit up your local DD or Starbucks (to each his own) and begin your trek up to Gloucester or down to the Cape (again), take a second to throw together an antioxidant-packed breakfast or picnic lunch.

Why? Your fair New England skin needs more than a few coats of SPF-30 for protection. While sunscreen shields your skin by absorbing light, the antioxidant activity of vitamin C and E, lycopene and beta-carotene can help defend it against free radicals – unruly UV-generated molecules that can be responsible for aging and tissue damage. You can get the most bang for your antioxidant buck consuming lots of colorful fruits and veggies, especially those that are vibrant red, orange, yellow, dark green, blue and purple. With Massachusetts’ farmers market season in full swing, there’s no shortage of options!
